As the world burns and community organizing efforts are being defunded across the U.S., we choose to double down and expand on our care work rather than look away.
For years, we've distributed herbal medicines, high quality masks and rapid covid tests via the Serenus Herb Bank. As covid care has continued to disappear in public spaces, we've shared hundreds of free masks with folks across the U.S./Canada and encouraged our recipients to keep their local communities safe via masking and clean air practices. We only host masks-required events because accessibility is paramount to our work.
In early 2026, moonpence farm will launch our new Lending Library - a FREE community care resource available to folks in ABQ & surrounding areas! The mpfLL will lend out crucial devices for covid care, basic building tools and more, completely free! Think: air purifiers, far-UVC devices, mask fit test kits, power tools, masks, molecular testing kits.
What is it & who's it for?
The mpfLL is a free community program offering various tools/devices/resources on loan to folks local to ABQ & surrounding areas. Our library is focused on covid safety tools, but also includes "regular" building tools like power drills, etc.
But why?
For years, our local community has been lending, sharing and fundraising for COVID safety tools - masks, tests, air purifiers. And still, many folks cannot afford what they need to stay safe during an ongoing pandemic. Access to these tools is essential for community safety, for COVID prevention and to reduce the spread of other diseases like bird flu, measles, and more!
The pandemic never ended! We are not post-pandemic and COVID is not just like the flu. COVID is still a mass-deadly and disabling illness that affects almost all systems in the body. COVID disproportionately harms Black & Brown, Trans & Nonbinary and Disabled communities.
We’ve spent years, scrounging and saving to buy our own COVID safety tools and it’s important that we make these accessible to others who can’t and shouldn’t have to do the same. Our goal is to build access in ways that we wish had been available to us so that others don’t have to start from scratch. As under-resourced disabled people, it takes so much time and effort just to get the STUFF for projects, let alone complete the projects. We move on crip time. This is part of why our farm build out is so slow, we use up so many spoons just trying to get the tools to begin!
With this lending library, our goal is to protect our local community by providing accessible resources so that we can gather and live more safely. Many disabled and immunocompromised folks have been unable to safely access medical care, basic needs (grocery store, transportation) and social gatherings because there are no COVID safety precautions. And EVERYONE is at risk for Long COVID not just disabled folks. Even a mild or asymptomatic infection can cause Long COVID and each infection increases that risk.
A multi layered approach to COVID safety (including wearing a mask) and disease prevention is the most effective way to keep each other safe.
Covid safety is an act of harm reduction and collective care!
So where do the tools come from?
The Lending Library will include tools sourced in a variety of ways, including tools owned by mpf's founders (purchased with their own $$) and tools purchased as gifts / via crowdsourcing in our community (i.e. owned by the farm). We have a wishlist of additional items needed to stock our library - you can follow the link to make a gift or chip in on an item!
How does it work?
Local community members will fill out a request form for the items they need during a specified time period. They'll pick up and return the item(s) in ABQ. We'll have more details (including damage a damage policy) when the program formally launches in early 2026!
What's stocked in the library?

How can I support from near or far?
You can help stock the library! Here's how:
1). Send a direct contribution! In order to reach more folks and support clean air at larger events, we need bigger air purifiers, more far-UVC devices, masks, and covid tests. You can send a direct contribution (scroll to the end of this page) or purchase/chip in on items on our Lending Library wishlist!
2). Use our affiliate links & discount codes to purchase your own covid safety gear! Every purchase earns us either a small commission OR a percentage of your sale in store credit. We'll use those funds to purchase items on our wishlist to stock the library. This one is really a win-win: you get your own tools and help us buy our own!
3). Gift us your gently used gear! Have an extra high quality HEPA filter, a stash of respirators gathering dust, or a power tool you no longer use? You can send it our way to help stock the library! Email kelly@moonpence.farm with what you'd like to offer.
4). Share this resource with others who may be able to support! Circulate on social media, send directly to others who give a shit about community care, even those outside of NM - care work has no borders : )
5). Brands interested in collaborating to support this program: please reach out to moonpencefarm@gmail.com!
